Operation Celebrate Others:

This year, one of my New Years Resolution’s is to be better about celebrating others. Often times, life is going by so dang fast and we get caught up in our everyday lives that we forget to celebrate the people around us. Our big moments are important to us but other’s important moments should be, too.

I was thinking, “I’ll give them a call, that’ll be personable.” But to be honest, I’m not a big fan of talking on the phone, so I probably wouldn’t follow through. Plus, with being a nightshifter and being on the West Coast, there’s never a good time to call anyone.

Then I was thinking, it would feel like I had to send them a gift and I can’t afford to send everyone a gift.

In the book I recently read called The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, she says, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”

So I set out with a goal in mind, to send a handwritten card to celebrate others the good old fashioned snail mail way.

I’m only one month in but here’s what I did and here’s my plan of action:

-I raided target’s dollar stop and found some of the cutest card packs for $1! I also snagged some birthday variety packs from amazon.

-I wrote all the big events in my planner

-I made sure I was stocked up on stamps and address labels

-I made sure I had all the correct addresses in my address book

-I got the cutest greeting card box because according to the book I’m reading called Atomic Habits, if you make a habit attractive, you will more likely do it. So, hello cute greeting card box 🙂

-Then towards the end of the month, I’ll start planning out my next month celebrations. I’ll work on getting the cards written out and the envelopes addressed so they aren’t late …like they were this month. Oops! (Remember, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”)

The whole goal here is to be genuinely happy for others. Another year older? What a blessing that we get to celebrate your life again! Bought a new home? What a huge accomplishment! Got baptized? I’m literally so proud of you! Landed your dream job? Of course you did, you’re such a hard worker! Had a baby? What a bad ass you are!

But it’s not just about the good. It’s about celebrating ever season life throws at us; even the bad.

Need a pep talk? I got you! Just had a bad breakup? I’ll be your hype girl! Lost your job? Let’s figure out a plan B! Have a goal but not sure how to execute it? Let’s talk it out!

My dear readers, if you have something you would like me to celebrate with you or help you with; let me know! If you want a handwritten card, drop your address and what it is we are celebrating in the comments! If you’re weird about giving out your address (which I promise I won’t randomly stop by) then drop your email address!

It’s not too late to make this your resolution either. It literally cost less than 75cents and a little time to make someone’s day. What’s your excuse?

Operation Celebrate Others is now in full swing 🙂
